Championships in Gent

Padelfun in the sun! This week-end our distinguished EuroPadel members Maria T., Carmencita, Ana D., Victoria, Alfonso S. and Patrick traveled to the Far West of Gent. It was in the land of the Buffalo’s that they battled under the hot sun. Of all warriors, only Sister Maria T. survived and won the trophies.
Mixed
Padel club padel4U2 hosted two tournaments: the ‘Vlaamse Kampioenschappen’ (Flemish Championships) which was open for men and women and the Flanders Padel Trophy, which was only open for men. Maria T. won gold in the mixed competition (together with Patrick Lelubre) and silver in the women single competition.
Single Women
Congratulations to Maria T. who played five matches on Saturday and two finals on Sunday. Thumbs up also for padel4U2 for the organization and their hospitality. Players came from all around the country and the level of the games was very high. Clearly Padel has taken off in Flanders and it has a large footprint in Gent, where Padel is also a draught beer specially brewed to savour after the game …

Thank you very much from all Europadel people for a great tournement. Perfect organization and very friendly atmospheer. It was a pity that nearly everybody from Europadel was on holyday, but  if you organize another tournament  later on, you can count on us for a massive attendance.
And a special thanks to Patrick Lelubre for making my dream of winning a double mixed come finally true!

Not to forget that Bitxorri Press has created the new paramedic unit of EuroPadel, also know as the Victoria Cross Padel Clinic, as was explained by Maria, our female padel champion:

…Por cierto, gracias a Victoria pude jugar la final del mixto y ganar. En la final del single y con un sol implacable, casi deshidratada, tuve una bajada de tensión, no podía moverme y creí que me íba a quedar en la pista. Pero al salir, Victoria me hizo beber Aquarius, hasta unos ocho, y poco a poco me fui recuperando y pude jugar la final del mixto, así es que parte del éxito se lo debo a ella!

Los del Padel4U2 están muy contentos, ya tienen 250 socios y pensando en abrir más clubs en Bélgica. El torneo fue todo un éxito de participación y organización, muchos españoles veraneantes se inscribieron. El mismo échevin de deportes vino a hacer la entrega de trofeos y premios.

MEANWHILE….

Not all EuroPadelers were at Gent, a large number of members (up to 8!) gathered by the sea south of Barcelona at Sitges, and tried to play padel under strange weather conditions: magnificent sun, extreme heat, no rain, 35º and no clouds, good grief!

Our members Marisol, Ana, Cristina, Pepin, Fernando, Alfon-S y Alfon-F partipated in several padel activities, unfortunately no padel pics are available as they melted under the relentless sun..!!   Instead we only have some pics from the after-padel recovery  gala dinner with the famous showman Jordi LP:
